- "Old Dudes, follow your bliss."
Steven Fedrick has written music his whole life, a fact few people knew. A heart attack at 46 compelled him to loose his music into the world. His debut CD Fedrick not Fred is the result.
"After my brush with death, I became seriously motivated. I figured it'd be a shame to die with the music still in me. I virtually locked myself in my home studio until I had the CD in hand. The final mixed down was well received so I released it. The on-line digital distribution revolution enabled me to put it in almost every major music retail store on the web (including Japan, Australia and Denmark!).
The most common response I get is surprise at the diversity of styles on the CD. The brilliant songwriting team of Alan Meken and Tim Ashman wrote Little Shop of Horrors and Disney's Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast. They are a huge influence on me. Included in Fedrick not Fred is Dixieland, Americana, and Indie Pop with a little Flaminco thrown in.
The cardio wake-up call was exactly what I needed. So old dudes, as Joseph Campbell said, it's never too late to follow your bliss."

What was the albums that most influenced you as a songwriter?
Cliché alert: Sargent Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band by the Beatles. I loved the ambition, diversity & the combined brilliance of style, substance and technology.
- Graceland by Paul Simon – an eclectic mixture of musical styles. It is an amazingly artful blending of pop, a cappella, isicathamiya, and mbaganga. Simon’s imagery and song craft is amazing. It took popular music to a different level.
- Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen - Rock epic-ally personal. When I was sixteen, I attended his E-Street concert @ Cincinnati’s River Front Coliseum. It was an intense and meaningful experience.
- Songs in the Key of Life by Stevie Wonder – Jazz, balladry, funk, Afro beat, even a string-quartet minuet
